Elegant Two-Bedroom Apartment in Newcastle’s Historic Watergate Building

Stay in style at this beautifully presented two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment, located on Newcastle’s south Quayside within the historic Watergate Building. Combining period character with modern comfort, the apartment offers a private entrance, a stylish lounge and dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen for your convenience.

Ideal for corporate clients and leisure travellers alike, this apartment provides a peaceful and professional environment — not a party pad, but a refined home-from-home in one of Newcastle’s most iconic settings.

History of the Building

Built in 1830, the Watergate Buildings sit beside the Swing Bridge, a Grade II listed landmark on the National Heritage List for England. The building’s cellar still contains a surviving sandstone arch from the medieval Tyne Bridge, offering a rare glimpse into the city’s architectural past.

This site also marks the former location of the Bridge Chapel of St. Thomas the Martyr, which once stood at the north end of the medieval bridge. The chapel was replaced in the 1820s–30s by the Church of St. Thomas the Martyr at Barras Bridge, designed by the renowned architect John Dobson. A narrow lane, Watergate, still runs alongside the building, preserving its historic name and character.

Location

The apartment’s prime Quayside location allows guests to explore Newcastle’s highlights entirely on foot. Discover the vibrant riverside restaurants and pubs, Newcastle Cathedral, and The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, or enjoy world-class events at the Utilita Arena and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art — all just a short stroll away.

Excellent bus and rail links provide easy access to the wider North East region, including its stunning coastline and picturesque historic towns.

A Perfect Blend of Heritage and Comfort

Whether you’re visiting for work or pleasure, this exceptional apartment offers a unique stay that blends modern living with Newcastle’s rich history — all in one truly special location.
